Did you say MILLION?

Million Puppet Project

I couldn’t believe it when I read about this amazing project on the Puppet Buzz blog. At next year’s bi-annual UNIMA (UNion Internationale de la MArionnette) World Festival they are going to attempt a new Guiness world’s record for the largest puppet display ever–and we’re invited to join in!

The organizers are asking that puppeteers and puppet builders from all over the world donate puppets to display at the festival in April 2008. What a cool project!

Right now there’s sketchy details at the official Million Puppet Project website, but there promises to be more information forthcoming including shipping details, deadlines, and even a webcam of the event… I don’t know about you, but I’m going to find it pretty difficult to get to Australia any time soon, so having a live webcam shot of this incredible feat will be a nice touch.

All of the donated puppets will be given to charities after the display. So get building! Not only can you have a part in making history, but you’ll also be spreading our art form and helping out children and families in need with your donation. Kewl.

4-19-07 Update: The display will be presented on April 6th, 2008. Entries will be accepted until that date. Puppets can be sent to: PO Box 832 FREMANTLE AUSTRALIA 6959.
